Quote Of The Day

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

So much has happened over the last week which explains why I have been a little bit slow in putting up this post, however from 25th - 27th August we ran another Empower U seminar at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. This time we had over 180 energetic teens, and the atmosphere at the end of the event was electric. (Here are a couple of pics).

One of the quotes that we leave the participants with at the end of the program is “Do the thing you said you would do… Well after the mood you said it in has gone”. I think this is a piece of advice that all us need to hear from time to time. How often do we go along to a seminar, get all excited and motivated, set all these huge goals and make all these big commitments to ourselves. Then we go back to our everyday lives, and over the following days and weeks that awesome feeling begins to fade. Then we start to compromise, even justify our current position and even at worst, totally give up on the goals we set for ourselves. So herein lies the true measure of a successful person. Are you able to “Do the thing you said you would do… Well after the mood you said it in has gone”.

My First City To Surf

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

Last Sunday I joined 65,ooo-odd people in the world famous City to Surf. Over fourteen kilometers, runners or walkers trekked through the popular streets of Sydney and ended up at the beautiful Bondi Beach. Along the way, I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Sam Rehnborg, who’s father was the inventor of the world’s first multi vitamin and mineral supplement. See picture. And also Adro, recent winner of Australia’s ‘The Biggest Loser’ TV series. While my time of two hours and forty minutes was slightly off the course record of forty minutes and three seconds, I really enjoyed the experience and the exercise. Here are a few pics from the day… And remember, “In the race to success, anybody can win, if you just stay in the race!”

WEAR YOUR UNDERWEAR ON THE OUTSIDE

Thursday, August 3rd, 2006

Seen any good movies lately? Well last week my wife and I went to the movies to watch the long overdue new Superman movie. As I was sitting there in front of the big screen, I couldn’t help but think about how we can ALL be superhero’s in our own way. Enjoy the article below, I’m sure you will like it!

WEAR YOUR UNDERWEAR ON THE OUTSIDE
Some superpowers you need for business success
By Dale Beaumont

Picture this: an eerie place overwhelmed with blackness where the only source of light is the fiery blazes of upturned cars. And it flickers off the tiny shards of glass that spreads itself over footpaths lined with chalky silhouettes of deceased citizens.

Imagine this. But not for too long, as you know that thieves lurk within every shadow and that chaos should always be expected. Then spare a thought for those who prevent it. Those dedicated few who we all like to call SUPERHEROES.

We have all thought about how life would be as superheroes with superpowers. However, to avoid chaos within a business we must do more than just think.

Here are some superhero powers that successful people use to prevent disorder and anarchy within their business.

LASER VISION

Remain focused. Once successful people have defined their aims and outcomes, they zero in on that one thing. Make up your decision and stick to it.

According to property investors, Gary and Jenny Leather, focus is an important element of their success and a piece of advice they offer new property investors. Stop your mind from wandering by focusing on your goals.

INVISIBILITY

Business success requires effort, dedication and sacrifice. But lets face it - you don’t want to be working hard for your entire business career.

Margaret Lomas, founder of Destiny Group, says “when you start a business of your own, your first goal should be to get out of it.” Your success of your business should not deteriorate when you are not there. This is the difference between being ’self-employed’ and being ‘in business.’ So your first goal in business should be to make yourself invisible.

FLIGHT

While it is important to pay attention to detail, ensure that you also consider the big picture. This may require you to stand back or adopt a bird’s eye view of your business.

Douglas Foo, founder of Apex-Pal International, understands that it is not only important to have a big picture of your company, but also “a good overall picture of the developments and changes in the world and how these changes affect the company.”

DANGER SENSE

Successful people are able to see danger in advance. Their ability to detect challenges and obstacles before they occur, allow them to make decisions and take the necessary action to avoid complications.

Brad Sugars, Action International Chairman, believes that in today’s business world everything is about handling change. He says “be proactive and know what’s going to happen because you’re the one making it happen.”

INCREDIBLE STRENGTH

To operate a business, you will require incredible strength. There will be times when you need to go beyond the call of duty to achieve your goals, and overcome the challenges and obstacles that impede your path to success.

In 2001, Cleanevent founder, Craig Lovett, made a mistake that almost resulted in the loss of everything, including his business and house. Craig demonstrated extraordinary strength in rebuilding his business and he is now considered one of the most experienced event and venue cleaning and waste strategy experts in the world.

SUPER STRETCH

Do not be afraid to stretch beyond your comfort zone. When you move outside your comfort zone you will experience fear, but from that fear you will grow and achieve success.

Property investor, Peter Comben, was employed as a primary school teacher for sixteen years before he realised that he was in a comfort zone. In an effort to challenge himself and stretch his abilities, Peter left his job and pursued his passion for property.

IN STORT, if you want to soar over destruction and mayhem to achieve great heights, then perhaps it’s time for you to start using superpowers that will be productive for your business. Determine what you want to achieve then decide what undies go with your tie or blouse, because when it comes to business there is nothing wrong with wearing your underwear on the outside.
